The Global Community Dialogue Series creates a forum of thoughtful dialogue and active listening that challenges traditional thinking, stimulates questioning, and deepens the understanding of critical global issues that confront refugees resetting in Utah.
August topic is the Conflict of Syria: The Critical Refugee Flight – A discussion focusing on the past, present, and future of the Syrian Conflict and how it has resulted in refugees.
Asaad Al-Saleh is an Assistant Professor of Arabic, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies working for the Department of Languages and Literature and the Middle East Center at the University of Utah. He is the author of several articles on issues related to identity, displacement, and political culture in modern Arabic Literature. His area of interest is Syria, Palestine, and the Arab world. His book, Voices of the Arab Spring: Personal Stories of the Arab Revolutions, is forthcoming by Columbia University Press. He is currently working on a book that covers the Syrian revolution.
